I am Eugene G. Zrinyi /egz48 @ yahoo.com and I served with the 101st Airborne
3/506 Charlie company in 1968 and 1969. I haven't heard from many people but it
would be nice to hear from anybody that served with me. I have dreams and
thoughts of our mission over there all the time. And I wonder what happed to all
the good people I served with there. I join a Army reserve unit when I got out
of Vietnam and had alots of trouble with people in that unit cause I was the
only active duty soldier in the unit . So I quit and ten years later I joined
the U.S.Air Force which I still serve in today. I have served on three tours of
duty over sea'a in the past two years . And I'm tired of all the bull so I will
probably retire this year. The military has fallen down hill in the past ten
years and getting worse because of all the rules and bull it takes to get
promoted in rank. I still wear many of my Army things cause I am pround to say I
served with the best.
I thinks if people were able to post pictures on line with these messages we
would be able to recognize peoples more by their picture so we can recall there
names. God bless you all and I hope to hear from somebody soon . Gene

Subject : Nam 68' & 69'
On June 6, 1968 is was assigned to Battery E 82nd Arty 1st Cav Div and on then reassigned to Battery E 82nd Arty HQ 1st Air Cav Div on July 28, 1968. My main duty station was at Camp Evans for about the first 6 months of my tour and then we moved with the Division to Phouc Yinh where I completed my tour of duty on July 2, 1969. Our Company had OH13s’, LOHs’, Hueys’ and Fixed Wings. Our Company insignia was the Woodpecker. Some had the cigar and others didn’t. Our main mission was to fly support and observation for the 82nd Artillery Company. I remember fling missions into Camp Carroll, Quang Tri, Hue, Phu Bai, Camp Eagle, Tay Ninh, Phu Loi, Bearcat Bien Hoa and Quan Loi. It was a hell of a time. There are a lot of skeletons in my closet that I have been trying to forget for a long time. With 911 and the Iraq war it seems that the skeletons have been rattling more than I can handle. I’m sure you guys can relate. I am sending some pictures, which I made notes to prior to sending them back home in 68’ & 69’. It is like a diary of the times I spent in hell. It was a long time ago and I just recently found these pictures, which put me on my knees. The things that jump out at me the most are the rocket & mortar attacks that were like an everyday occurrence. There are other things that also come to mind but I would rather not get into them.
Do any of you guys that were at Evans and Phouc Vinh remember the Rocket
& mortar attacks or was it a figment of my imagination?

Headquarters of XXIV Corps ('Provisional Corps Vietnam' before they changed the
name to XXIV Corps). I am hoping someone out there can recall--or help me find
records of--any mortar, rocket, or ground attacks that occurred in that vicinity
during that time period. My recollections of that year of my life are pretty
vague; and I don't trust my memory.
I have filed a claim with the VA for PTSD; but I need more documentation of

during that time period would be much appreciated.

The 4th Brigade Combat Team and the 506th Council at Fort Campbell, KY are

John is the Museum Technician at the Don F. Pratt Memorial Museum at Fort

and pictures are even more valuable in many cases than the artifacts. Often
times many of the most mundane items such as belts, pants, socks, etc. that date
from that time are very valuable to the museum for making accurate displays to
portray how the soldiers lived and survived.”

Subject : Looking for information
Hello,
My name is Kristin and for the last 2 years I have been looking into my family history. One person that really stood out was my Great Uncle SFC Howard Earl Button. He PROUDLY served in the Army for 16 years, but I am not sure if it was all with the 101st. He served for his country, God, and his family. He was 33 years old when he returned to Vietnam for his second tour. He arrived in South Vietnam on Dec. 12, 1967 (second tour) and was listed MIA shortly after. On Jan. 31,1968 the family received the news that he was KIA. He was with the 2/506th A company in the Phuoc Long province. His MOS was 11B4P, light weapons Infantry.
I am looking for anyone who served with him or any information on the Batallion during his second tour or his first tour. God Bless you all and Thank You for your time.
Sincerely,
Kristin

get the pilot out when one of the blades hit one of the 155mm's. The pilot got
out, but I was trapped under it. They medivaced me to LZ Sally. I was just
wondering if anyone had any photos of what was left of the chopper. I was told
that it blew up in all directions. I believe this firebase was across the A

maybe some old photos of what was left of the chopper. I understand the

he did, but I think he was in a mechanized unit. I am not sure though. Please

In these times.... and at the age I am now... I can't help but be overcome
with
issues that I had believed were long settled or at least diluted by time. But it
is almost like discovering I am in the shower with my shoes on. I accidently
came across this page while surfing the web. I just sat here staring at the
Screaming Eagle and a flood of emotions poured over me. I grew up in the
Washington DC area during those times that now, our grandchildren are learning
about in history class-- but were current events for us. No, they weren't movies
or books... but events and life changing times that have left their marks on so
many souls. I grew up with 13 guys and four of us girls. The last of the
original Peanut Characters. Walking at night safe and flirty... dancing to
Motown, making out at the drive-ins, and just the beginnings of "something
is
not right with the grownups" had started. Vietnam wasn't anything the
parents
shared with "us kids". Then one morning (it seemed like ov!
ernight)-- THE DRAFT took our boys. All but Stevie. And Stevie died (OD) after
the other 12 left. He was our first casualty of war. The 101 took them all. And
us girls cried. We wrote and sent packages and prayed for an end to the
insanity. They all came home. Grown and changed and missing parts of their
souls. To this day, our guys are breathing and functioning and still carrying
their own internal holes in their souls BUT they went...and they fought... and
they are to be honored for all they did! I remain proud of them and will forever
be grateful for their sacrific for freedom. The freedom to speak up, to vote, to
make choices, to stand on opinion, to salute our Flag with true meaning, to be a
part of a forever brotherhood of their concrete knowings of the cost each one
paid; and for their personal respect they give each other. I hate war but I love
our soldiers... then and now. God Bless you all and your families. When I see
the Screaming Eagle I still see each face and!
feel such humbleness, such respect. Thank you, thank you... for goin
