Coach Moynihan, Pittsfield High's highly publicized basketball coach, started his seventh consecutive year at P.H.S. this season. Over the past six years, Coach Moynihan's teams have won 99 games and have lost only 31 which is one of the best, records of a high school basketball coach in the state in the past four years. Coach Moynihan has won 3 Northern Berkshire League titles, two Berkshire County titles, and one Western Mass. Champions. He has never had a losing season.

Coach Moynihan

Although this year's team is an inexperienced one, Coach Moynihan has high hopes of going well over the century mark. "Because of our winning tradition, we will once more be shooting for the title." Coach looks for four special qualities which he calls: his four A's in choosing players for his team. They are: Academics, Ability, Attitude, and Aptitude. These are the four measuring sticks that he uses in appraising candidates for his team. These four qualities a boy must have before he can make the team.

Sportsmanship and extreme desire to win are two qualities that coach tries to develop in his players. "There is a fine line between the two" says Coach, "first the will to win, but if that is unsuccessful, the quality of sportsmanship must be applied. Coach's optimism is carried from him to the team by his co-captains Ray Millard and Tom Grieve. Some of last year's sophomore and junior varsity players show great spirit, and the new sophomores are ready and eager to go.

"Even though we are optimistic, we fully realize that this year, in particular, the league is represented by experienced talent. Drury, for one, has all of last year's starting team back, and should be a pre-season favorite. Adams will also be a strong contender, and arch-rival St. Joseph's will be back with some strong material. However, we have faced similar situations in the past and came out a winner. This year I see no reason why we can't do the same."
