Baxter's Letter to the Class of '65, April 1997
Dear Classmates,
This past year has been an exciting year for the class of 65!! As many of you have discovered, we are now in cyberspace, with our own web site on the internet! Thanks to the efforts of Ray Houghton, we have been on line for over a year now, and have had over 1,700 hits! You will find information about the last reunion, notes from class-mates, the diploma list, info. on a class cruise planned for this spring, and a raffle that revolves around a quilt designed and sewn by Lee Anne Volin Connelly. If you have not found us yet, we are at: http://www.cyhaus.com/phs1965. If you haven't visited the web site for a while, stop by again and see what is new!! We are always updating!
It is also that time of year to ask for your financial support for the Class of '65 Scholarship Fund. This is the third year of our six year campaign. You will recall, this fund will supplement the $100.00 scholarship which is awarded each year through Pittsfield High in the name of the Class of'65. To help make it easier, we are offering three items you can purchase to support the fund. One item is a watercolor print of Park Square, done by a local artist, Aileen Lane, my Mom! ! A view of Park Square in lovely pastel shades, with Berkshire Couny Savings Bank and the old Berkshire Gas Co. The second item is a box of Crane & Co. notecards. Each box contains ten cards with a photo of the raffle quilt on the front of each one, accompanied with lined envelopes. The third item is a raffle chance on the quilt, plus several other prizes!! The raffle quilt depicts a center section with PHS in the middle, surrounded by the various middle school plus Taconic and Central High. It has a border of schoolhouse blocks, each one depicting an elementary school in Pittsfield at the time of our education. Each one is named and dated the year it was built. On the back is some information about Pittsfield Schools. All research for the quilt was done by Wayne Collins of our class. The quilt and the Park Square print can be seen on our web site......they look wonderfull! We will be displaying the quilt, notecards, and prints for the next three years at various banks, craft fairs, school events and City Hall to raise money for the fund. Anyone who has donated to the fund since its inception will automatically be entered in the drawing! If you have sent $25.00, your name will be entered 25 times, and so on The raffle tickets are good for our four year raffle as follows:
